Save the Bay and Your Local Streams and Rivers

Fight Developers’ Push to Weaken Maryland’s Stormwater Management Laws!

On the afternoon of Tuesday, April 6, the Joint House and Senate
Administrative, Executive and Legislative Review Committee (AELR) will hear
testimony on proposals that developers are pushing to weaken vital
protections for the Chesapeake Bay and its tributary streams and rivers.

Time: 4:00pm

Place: Joint Hearing Room
Legislative Services Building
Annapolis

Specifically, the AELR Committee will contemplate whether to approve “emergency regulations” that would effectively delay implementation of the
Maryland Stormwater Management Act of 2007 for years and weaken the Act’s
requirements for several classes of development.

These emergency regulations and HB 1125, a bill that embodies them, are
opposed by a large coalition of environmental organizations. A list of
some of those organizations is below.

The AELR Committee might vote on these emergency regulations soon after the
close of public testimony.

Please Take These Actions

1. Call and write key members of the AELR Committee. Urge them to
reject the proposed emergency regulations and any other proposal to delay
the implementation of the Maryland Stormwater Man Management Act of
2007 or weaken its provisions. Tell them you consider this to be a litmus
test of their commitment to the Bay and clean water. Contact information
for those key legislators is below.

2. Testify at the AELR hearing. You must sign up by 3:30 on a signup
sheet outside the hearing room. Additional information is below.

3. If legislators from your district or county serve on the AELR
Committee, call and write them, too.
